The Butcher Shop
2022

Photography, Digital prints on archival paper
The Butcher Shop is a series exploring the ambiguous boundary between the human body and materiality. Through the manipulation of light, the images strip the body of its individual characteristics, showcasing an intentional transformation—not to erase the human presence entirely, but to peel away the cultural and symbolic meanings imposed upon the body, reducing it to its pure physical existence.

In The Butcher Shop, the contours of the body are blurred, making it difficult for viewers to immediately recognize specific body parts. This strategy of defamiliarization provokes deeper reflection on identity, materiality, and the essence of life. Each image suspends a fleeting moment, inviting viewers to navigate the tension between recognition and estrangement, questioning how the body is seen, perceived, and defined.
