End, And… / 喜喪

Digital print on Fantac 105gsm rice paper; Burning installation; video installation

End, and… draws from the Chinese ritual of burning paper offerings—mostly symbols of wealth and happiness such as gold bars, clothes, and houses. What intrigued me were the unexpected items: credit cards, disinfectants, sunscreen—objects tied to debt, illness, and anxiety. Their presence disrupts the logic of bliss and reveals deeper desires and fears.

In Buddhist belief, the bardo is a 49-day state between life and death, where the soul remains perceptive. Offerings are not just gifts, but a means to release attachments and break the cycle of rebirth. I created six images representing the senses—sight, sound, smell, taste, touch, and consciousness—and burned them during the exhibition. The ritual became a shared release, transforming the space and dissolving boundaries between the living and the dead.
